Belper is celebrating getting a spot on The Telegraphs list of Britain’s Best 20 High Streets. Ranking third on the list the high street stood out for its locally owned retail shops and its abundance of eateries and real ale pubs, along with its ability to adapt and thrive despite challenges faced by the retail sector. Belper is the only place in the country to have won the Great British High Street's High Street of the Year award twice (most recently in 2019).

Among Belper’s many highlights, Nourish at No.44 was crowned as offering the best breakfast in Derbyshire following a poll run by Derbyshire Live and The Railway won the 2024 title for the best watering hole in Derbyshire in the National Pub and Bar Awards.

The high street also hosts regular events such as a monthly farmers market, a summer and winter food festival, pride, and the festive light switch-on, which bring together residents and visitors, fostering a strong sense of community.

Belper sits within Derwent Valley, significant in world history as the birthplace of the factory system. The system developed here was copied across the globe which is why the Derwent Valley Mills were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2001.

Now is the perfect time to experience the charm of Belper’s award-winning high street! Whether you’re searching for unique gifts, enjoying a delicious meal, or simply soaking in the atmosphere, Belper promises a special experience.
